Intro
Our first real vacation together. . .drove over
and back. We drove a Northern route there and took
a Southern route back to view different parts of
each state.
Alternated every other night: motel for Patricia
and camping for me.
Yellowstone is a wonder, and beautiful place.

There really are a bear and her two cubs
in this first one.

The bison was just truckin' down the road oblivious to all
the tourists taking photos.

Neither of us knew it existed, just happened to run across
it on our wanderings.
THE Grand Canyon may be longer and deeper, but, the colors
in Yellowstone take the prize

You can definitely tell the different epochs here, with a
(geologically) recent lava flow near the top.
|
You can see some of the different colored mineral deposits,
in-person was more striking than in the photos.

In Wyoming, before you get to Yellowstone.
Climbing up to the top of a hill, and then down through
the bowels of the hill to come out at the bottom.

Still pretty scared from the fire a few years
ago, they are letting nature take her natural
course, which is turning a lot of the areas into meadows.
Some amazing colors from the mineral deposits.

Deforestation from the fires are left to run its natural
course, which is to return or start back as meadows.
|
 |
When lava reaches an obstruction in its flow these type of upshoots occur.
Also, this might have once been a tunnel with the surrounding
"tunnel" eroded away.

This is what Yellowstone is currently working towards after
the fires, a totally different ecosystem.

This geyser mound probably started out at ground level, but has increased
its height with mineral deposits.

There used to be five of these petrified trees. After tourists
had chipped four down to nothing for souvenirs, they placed the
fence around the last one.

They have special walkways through the geyser areas as the ground is too unstable,
and if you fell through the water temperature would kill ya. Neither of us realized before we
arrived there, that Yellowstone is the collapsed caldera of a volcano, the ENTIRE park.
The waters in the `holes' were all different colors, blues, oranges, and yellows dependent on
the chemicals suspended in them.

You can just see the roofs in the valley of Yellowstone town.

Once you've seen `em, you've seen `em.
Though to be fair, we didn't get up into them, which might have made a difference.
You can tell if you look down the center that this is two pics patched together.

Idaho was pretty boring, mostly, alternating
between desert and farmlands.

Water |

Water speaks for itself, though surprising how much
there was for Summer. Unlike Yosemite which dries
up.

Highly recommend as a must see for everyone once in their lifetimes. |
